A Devotional for you....

Giving Over Control to God
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
1 Peter 5:6
There is nothing that will humble a person more than failure. A gambler who loses his entire paycheck is temporarily humbled. An alcoholic who loses his family is temporarily humbled. The problem with this type of humbling is that the situation is the thing that humbles the person. When we get humbled by a mess that we have made, the humbling usually doesn't last. And before we know it, we've messed up again.
If we want to rebuild broken-down boundaries, we must first humble ourselves under God's mighty hand. When we humble ourselves, we give up control of our situation and ask God to come in and take over. When we humble ourselves, we give God permission to come in and help us change-permanently. The problem with situational humbling is that it just doesn't last.
PRAYER
Dear Lord, teach me what it means to humble myself under Your mighty hand so that You may lift me up in due time.

A devotional for you.....

God's Day - Timer
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3 : 23
In January 2006, First Place was one of the features on the TV news show Geraldo at Large. The film crew spent all day on Sunday filming the piece to be shown on Tuesday night. I was amazed that my interview had been sent instantly through the telephone lines to New York and that the producer had the text on her Blackberry one hour later. The next morning, as I meditated on all that had transpired the day before, I was struck with the reality that God has always worked this way, and man is still way behind.
When I think about the fact that God knows instantly whatever I do, whatever I say and wherever I go, I am struck by the awesome truth of how much I do and say for man and not for God. What a thought - Day-Timer by God! His plans become my plans and not the other way around. The stresses of our daily life would seem so much lighter if we remembered how instantaneously our prayers reach Him. What if, instead of lashing out in frustration when things go wrong, we spoke kindly because our words are instantly in God's ears?
PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for forgetting that You are the One I need to please. Help me today to work for You, and You alone, in all I do and say.

Health Tip of the Day

Do you read the health tip of the day?

a devotional for you.....

Leaning on HIS Strength
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
Psalm 20:7
Every time I began a new weight-loss program, I was filled with enthusiasm and hope for my future success. I would throw myself into the new program and strive to do it perfectly. My hope was firmly placed on this new plan for weight loss, regardless of the details. Each time, I just knew that this was the answer, that this plan would work. However, after repeated failures, I was left each time feeling worse about myself, and the initial weight loss was all regained in a vicious repeating cycle.
When I came to the First Place program, I began to see that I had been placing my hope and trust in a diet program instead of trusting in an amazing God - the only One who had a permanent solution to my weight and lifestyle issues. I discovered that the almighty God cared about my weight problems, as insignificant as they felt to me next to a magnificent Lord. Over time, I began to let go of my trust in temporary programs. God offered me a new way of life, a new way of living and a new way of being.
It was an internal transformation that led to an external and eventually obvious change. I have maintained my weight loss for over 1- years now, along with my continued relationship with a living God who always wanted me to choose life. Today, my trust is in Him...
PRAYER
Oh my precious Lord, You have given me life. You have granted me freedom to stop trusting in diets and scales and to trust in You, the living God who showed me a new way. Yes, Lord, by Your grace I live it one day at a time. Thank You, Jesus, thank You.
Journal: Are you ready and willing to try a new way of life? A new way of living - one that our trustworthy Lord has designed? Write a prayer of readiness today.

a devotional for you....

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7

In 1969, Coca-Cola started their "It's the Real Thing" ad campaign. In 1990, they changed it slightly to "You Can't Beat the Real Thing."
This world (chariots and horses) many times offers success and victory, but supplies only disappointments and disillusionments - definitely not the real thing! Just when we think we can bank on something, it changes.
The only thing we can know for sure is that our God does not change, and we can trust in His name. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He never leaves us nor forsakes us. He will be with us always until the end of the age. He never slumbers or sleeps. He is the beginning and the end. He is our Rock, our Anchor, our Strong Tower, our Shelter, our Savior, our Comforter and our Prince of Peace. He is the Real Thing, and He can't be beat.
So whether you drink Coca-Cola or Diet Dr. Pepper or something else, remember that only our Lord is the Real Real Thing. Trust in Him!

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your trustworthiness and for being there for me when I need You. Thank You for Your unchanging and unconditional love. You are my Shelter I run to in the storms of this life. You are the Anchor that holds me in place in stormy circumstances. You are the Rock I can stand on in the shifting sands of this world. You are my Savior and the One and Only Real Thing. I know that I can trust in Your name, my Lord and my God. Amen
Journal idea: If you have faced some disappointments and disillusionments in your life and are dealing with some real trust issues, write in your journal exactly what you are feeling. Then list all the wonderful attributes of God that will see you through whatever is coming your way. You can trust God, and He will give you peace and comfort beyond measure.
